Yahoo! Kickstart is a professional network with a distinct purpose: to connect college students, recent grads, professionals and alumni to discover internships and jobs, or get career advice and mentorship.
Kickstart allows you to create a professional profile, browse company profiles and network with peers, professors, alumni and potential employers. If networking is the best way to launch a career, then Kickstart is the best way to start building your network - by leveraging what you have in common with the people you need to know.
Kickstart was conceived and built by the Yahoo's Advanced Products team in San Francisco. While far from complete, the goal of the first "preview" release is to start seeding the network with alumni and professionals for students to connect to. Stay tuned -- more to come.

Yahoo Launches Kickstart, A New Social Network Around College Students And Alumni, TechCrunch, Michael Arrington
"What I liked... was the possibility to find a deep database of individuals that went to the same schools that I did. And this clearly isn’t a place for pictures of partying and drinking - the whole point is to build up a professional network to help you move your career along. For young students just getting out of college this can be a very useful service."
From Yahoo Brickhouse, a KickStart, Zync & a FireEagle, GigaOM, Om Malik
"Yahoo KickStart helps recent college graduates find jobs using social-networking features. Linking recent (or soon-to-be) graduates via alumni and fraternity and sorority organizations, Kickstart is trying to help college students overcome their lack of “professional networks.” And in order to kick-start the effort, Yahoo is offering $25,000 to a U.S. university with the largest number of alumni profiles by Dec. 31."
